The Salem City School Division recognized and congratulated Salem High School Principal Scott Habeeb and Salem High School Math Teacher/Department Chair Pawel Nazarewicz for their recent contribution to the field of education through the publication of “It’s Time to Take an Assessment Journey.”
They co-authored this article in the fall 2016 edition of Virginia Educational Leadership, an educational journal published by the Virginia Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (VASCD). The article is the culmination of several years devoted to the careful examination of assessment and its impact on education and students.


Aramark Food Services recently held an elementary school art contest in which students were asked to incorporate school food and school spirit into a work of art. Tonight, Aramark’s Suzanne Quesenberry and School Board Chairman David Preston recognized first place winner, Iliana Martinez, a fourth grader at South Salem for having the top entry. The board also congratulated second place winner Chance Long, who is a fourth grader at G.W. Carver. Congrats to all 67 students who entered the contest!
