Game Synopsis

Spartans Defeat Cougars
 
Seven different players scored in the Spartan 13-0 victory over Pulaski on Tuesday night.  Kim Elmore and Kirsten McBride each scored 3 goals, while Claire Sexton added two and Sarah Collie, Julia Arthur, Laura Buriak, Katelin Campbell, and Harmon Hall each added one goal.  Hall added 3 assists, along with Alex Paxton, Emily Caldwell, Elmore, and Collie each collecting one assist.  The Lady Spartans are now 9-0-2 overall and will face Cave Spring High School on Friday night with game time scheduled for 7:00 PM!
 
The JV team also collected a win on Tuesday night, defeating Pulaski 6-0.

 

 

Salem and Hidden Valley Tie

Salem and Hidden Valley played to a scoreless tie on Friday night. The game ended 0-0 after regulation and overtime was played.  Spartan Goalkeeper, Bre Kawa made 6 saves on the night.  The Spartans play again on Tuesday at Pulaski High School.  Game time is scheduled for 7:00 PM!

 

 

Salem Defeats Christiansburg
 
The Spartans defeated Christiansburg on Tuesday night 6-1.  Claire Sexton started the scoring in the first half and Hannah Chauvin added a second.  In the second half Harmon Hall, Kim Elmore (2), and Alex Paxton added goals.  Hall led the way with 3 assists on the evening, as Elmore and Kirsten McBride picked up assists as well.  Salem outshot Christiansburg 41-1 on the night as they now improve to 8-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in River Ridge District play.  Salem will be at Hidden Valley this Friday, game time is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
 
The JV team also won on Tuesday night, as they defeated Christiansburg 3-0.  The JV team is now 7-2-0 overall.

 

Salem and Blacksburg Play To Tie
 
The Lady Spartans took the lead in the first half off a corner kick Friday night.  Claire Sexton scored the goal, while Sarah Collie earned the assist.  The score remained 1-0 until 12 minutes left in the game, as Blacksburg tied the score from the left side of the field.  Both teams tried to break the tie, but could not and the game ended 1-1.  Salem is now 7-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in River Ridge District play.  The next match is Tuesday against Christiansburg High School at home.  Game time is scheduled for 7 PM.
 
Also, Friday night, our JV team won their fifth game in a row by defeating Blacksburg 3-1.

 

 

Spartans Pull Out Victory In Final Minute!
 
Salem defeated Cave Spring on Wednesday night in a thriller.  The Spartans took the lead in the first half, as Claire Sexton received a pass from Jade Andrade and blasted a shot from 25 yards out.  Then in the second half, Cave Spring scored off a free kick to tie the game as it remained that way at the end of regulation.  The teams would then play two-five minute overtime periods.  In the second overtime period, Kim Elmore took a Sexton pass and headed for the goal to score the game winner with under a minute left.  Salem is now 7-0-0 on the season and plays at home on Friday night against Blacksburg.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30 PM!

 

Spartans Defeat Terriers 3-0 On Road
 
The Lady Spartans traveled to Vinton, VA Wednesday night to play a rematch against the William Byrd Terriers.  Salem won the game 3-0.  Kim Elmore got the Spartans on the board early, scoring 8 minutes into the game after receiving a ball from Laura Buriak on the left side of the field.  Buriak scored the final two goals as Claire Sexton and Hannah Chauvin collected assists.  Salem outshot William Byrd 44-8 on the night, while Bre Kawa came up with 7 saves for the Spartans in the net to preserve her 5th shutout of the season.
 
Salem will have some time off now, but will be back in action on April 20th against River Ridge District opponent Cave Spring.  The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 PM.
 
The Spartan JV team also defeated William Byrd on Wednesday night 2-0. 
 Goals were scored by Jordan Campbell and Cari Abner.

Spartans Successful In North/South Soccer Invitational
 
The Salem High School Women's Soccer team collected two wins over the weekend in Lynchburg, VA.  Salem defeated North Stafford 5-0 on Friday night.  Sarah Collie started the scoring on a free kick from 25 yards out in the first half.  Hannah Chauvin added two goals and an assist in the second half, along with Kim Elmore scoring two of her own.  Harmon Hall and Laura Buriak collected assists on the night.  The Spartans held a 15-8 advantage in shots for the game.  Goalkeeper, Bre Kawa came up with 8 saves for the game.
 
On Saturday, the Lady Spartans came away with a 1-0 victory over E.C. Glass High School.  Laura Buriak scored the goal 13 minutes into the second half with Claire Sexton assisting.  Salem held a 20-10 shot advantage, as the Spartans collected their 4th shutout of the season and improved their record to 5-0-0.
 
Salem will play again Wednesday at William Byrd High School.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

 

 

Salem Collects Third Win!
 
The Lady Spartans traveled to Northside High School Wednesday night and tallied a 3-0 victory over the Vikings.  Claire Sexton netted the first goal after recieving a pass inside the 18 from Kirsten McBride.  Meg Beedle collected the second goal, heading a Sexton cross into the goal and Laura Buriak finished off a corner kick to round out the scoring.  Kim Migliarese got credit for the assist on Buriak's goal.  The Spartans outshot the Vikings 38-9.  The Spartan JV team also won Wednesday night 2-1 over Northside.  Abbey Nemec and Mary Beth Lee scored the goals.
 
Salem will travel to E.C. Glass High School on Friday night to participate in the North/South Soccer Tournament.  The Spartans will face North Stafford on Friday night at 6:00.  Following the game, E.C. Glass will face Osbourn High School at 8:00.  The losers of the games will face off on Saturday at 12:00 Noon, while the winners will play at 2:00 Saturday.  Saturday's games will also be played at E.C. Glass High School.

 

Salem Collects Win
 
The Lady Spartans collected their second win of the 2010 season Thursday night as they defeated William Byrd High School 5-1.  Claire Sexton scored the first goal of the game and added another in the second half to lead the Spartans.  Hannah Chauvin added a goal in the first hald and Harmon Hall and Katelin Campbell added goals in the second half.  The Spartans improved to 2-0-0 on the year and will face off again next Wednesday at Northside High School.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

Opening Night Ends Well
 
Salem defeated Northside High School on Monday night 4-0.  Kim Elmore started and ended the scoring after recieving assists from Laura Buriak and Kirsten McBride.  Harmon Hall and Hannah Chauvin also tallied goals, while Claire Sexton collected an assist.  The Spartans led 3-0 at the half and outshot the Vikings 39-6.  Bre Kawa made 6 saves on the night, while the defense earned their first shutout of the season.
 
The next test for the Lady Spartans will be William Byrd High School on Thursday night.  Salem will play at home with kickoff at 7:00 PM for varsity and 5:30 for JV.  The JV team also collected their first win of the season Monday night by defeating Northside 3-1.

 

Spartans Win Final Scrimmage
 

Salem traveled to Patrick Henry High School on Tuesday night to compete in their final scrimmage before regular season games begin next week.  The Spartans defeated the Patriots 6-0 after they took a 4 goal lead into the half.  Five different Spartans scored goals in the victory.  Salem will open their 2010 season on Monday at home against Northside High School.  Game time is scheduled for 7:00 PM!  The Spartan JV team also collected a win on Tuesday night by defeating the JV Patriots 6-0 as well.

Salem Successful In First Scrimmage
 
The Salem Women's Soccer team traveled to Ben Franklin Middle School to compete against Franklin County in their first scrimmage of the 2010 season on Thursday night.  The Lady Spartans opened the scoring in the first half as they defeated the Eagles 6-0.  The Spartans have one more scrimmage left before opening up the regular season at home on March 15th against Northside High School!  The Junior Varsity team played the Eagles to a 1-1 draw Thursday night, with Abby Migliarese scoring the goal!

 

 

Coaching News

Horan Will Take Over JV Team

Allie Horan has been named the JV Head Coach for the Womens' soccer program. She served her first season with the program as a coach last year, assisting both the JV and Varsity teams. She will now lead the JV team and continue to help develop players technically and tactically within our program. We are very excited to have her working consistently with our JV squad, where we feel her knowledge and personality will be a benefit for our program. Coach Horan really reads the game well and will provide excellent training sessions to enhance soccer skills and ability for our girls!


2006 Graduate Joins Staff

Rachel Collie has been named Assistant Coach for the program. She will serve as an assistant for both the Varsity and JV squads. Collie helped Salem to capture the 2003 State Championship as a freshman, and now will return and try to do the same as a coach. Rachel has been coaching club soccer for the past 3 years, where she has been both a head coach and an assistant. We are very excited to have her come on board as a coach. She obviously knows what it takes to accomplish great things and we feel her knowledge, hard work, and commitment will contribute to helping players in our program reach their maximum potential!

 

Salem Had Two Players Play In VHSCA All-Star Game

Britteny Ingvaldsen and Molly Satterfield participated in the states senior all-star game on July 8 at Christopher Newport University. They competed for the West squad, which lost the game in a PK shootout. The game ended 4-4 and immediately went to PKs. Ingvaldsen played outside back, while Satterfield played time at forward. Both represented Salem's program extremely well. Congrats Ladies on this honor!

 

 

Salem Comes Up Short In The End!

The Spartans lost the State Semifinal game on June 6 at Radford High School in the final 30 seconds. Hidden Valley took an early lead, however Salem responded with the equalizer minutes later as the game stood 1-1 at halftime. With 32 seconds left in the game, Salem allowed the winning goal that ended their season.

Salem finished 18-4-2 in 2009!

 

SALEM BACK IN STATE SEMIS
 
Salem defeated Lord Botetourt on Tuesday night to advance to the State Semifinals on Friday.  The Spratans took the lead 8 minutes into the match, as Kim Elmore took a pass from Claire Sexton and scored her first of four goals in the game.  Elmore struck again 8 minutes before halftime with the assist going to Laura Buriak, as Salem took a 2-0 lead going into halftime.  In front of a packed house, the Spartans scored twice more in the second half to put the game away.  Elmore scored both off assist from Molly Satterfield and Megan Kennedy.
 
Salem is now 18-3-2 and will face Hidden Valley for the fifth time this Friday at Radford University.  Kickoff is scheduled for 12 noon!

 

Salem Is Region IV Champions!!

The Salem Women's Soccer team has won the Region IV title back to back seasons, as they defeated Hidden Valley in the Region IV Championship game on Friday night. Hidden Valley took the lead in the first half, by scoring with 12 minutes remaining in the half. Salem answered back with a goal 15 minutes into the second half and the game was tied at one. The goal came from Claire Sexton, who received a pass from Alex Paxton about 12 yards out. The game remained tied at one in overtime and sudden death overtime. Therefore, just like the night before the game was sent into penalty kicks. Salem kickers Megan Kennedy, Jade Andrade, Kim Elmore, and Brittney Ingvaldsen converted on their kicks and Salem won the PK contest, 4-1. Bre Kawa came through in the net for the Spartans.

Your Spartans are now 17-3-2 and will play in the State Quarterfinal game on Tuesday night at home against Region III runner-up, Lord Botetourt. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30!

 

Salem's Season Continues After Sudden Death PK Shootout!
 
The Spartans defeated Blacksburg High School on Thursday night in a sudden death PK shootout to advance to the Region IV Championship game today and also claim a State Tournament berth.  Salem took the lead 14 minutes into the match as Kim Elmore scored off a Megan Kennedy assist.  The score remained 1-0 at the half, however, Blacksburg scored 2 goals in the first four minutes of the second half to take the lead.  Salem's season was on the line and the Spartans answered the call as Claire Sexton found Elmore inside the 18, Elmore hit a shot from about 15 yards out to tie the game at 2 with 9 minutes remaining.  After two 5 minute scoreless overtimes and two 5 minute scoreless sudden death overtimes, the match was sent to penalty kicks.  Each team would shoot 5 times with both teams making 4 a piece, Megan Kennedy, Jade Andrade, Brittney Ingvaldsen, and Claire Sexton all converted on their chances, along with Keeper Bre Kawa, who came up with a big time save in the fourth round.  With the PK contest being tied at 4, the game was then sent into sudden death penalty kicks.  In the first round, senior captain Megan Kennedy knocked home her shot and Blacksburg answered.  In the second round, senior captain Brittney Ingvaldsen made good of her opportunity and Salem goalkeeper Bre Kawa came up with her second PK save of the night to end the long contest.
 
Salem will now face Hidden Valley tonight in the Region IV Championship game.  Kickoff is at 6 PM at Bogle Field.  After tonight's game, the Spartans will play in the State Quarterfinals on Tuesday, with site and game time to be announced!  Salem is now 16-3-2 overall this year.

Spartans Advance To Region IV Semifinal!
 
Emily Caldwell started the scoring 4 minutes into the game as Salem took a 6-0 victory over Graham High School in the Region IV Quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday night.  Salem added 5 more goals from Claire Sexton (2), Kim Elmore, Alex Paxton, and Molly Satterfield.  Assists were collected by Elmore (2), Paxton, Sexton, Sarah Chauvin, and Brittney Ingvaldsen.
 
Salem now advances to the Region IV Semifinal game on Thursday at Bogle Field with kickoff scheduled for 7:30!  The Spartans are now 15-3-2 overall.
 
Salem Loses District Final

 
The Spartans dropped a 1-3 decision in the River Ridge District Tounament Final on Friday night.  Hidden Valley scored first and Salem answered back with a goal from Kim Elmore off an assist from Jade Andrade.  However, Hidden Valley responded with two more goals to collect the win.
 
After the game the All-District team was announced, congratulations to the following girls:

Molly Satterfield and Taylor Davis were selected for Second Team
Megan Kennedy and Bre Kawa were selected for Honorable Mention
 
Salem opens Region IV action on Tuesday night aginst Graham High School.  Salem will be on the road and will play at 6:00 at East River Soccer Complex.

 

Spartans Advance To District Tournament Final
 
Salem scored just before the half off a corner kick and added two more goals in the second half to defeat Blacksburg High School on Wednesday night.  Emily Caldwell netted the first goal off an assist from Megan Kennedy.  Kim Elmore took a pass from Laura Buriak 6 minutes into the second half and Claire Sexton scored off an assist from Elmore 8 minutes later to give the Spartans the 3-0 victory.  Bre Kawa collected 8 saves in the net for the Spartans.
 
Salem will play Hidden Valley(a 5-2 winner over Cave Spring in the later game) in the River Ridge District Tournament Championship Game on Friday night at Bogle Field, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30!
 
 
Salem Advances to District Tounament Semis With Win Over Pulaski
 
The Spartans defeated Pualski on Monday night 8-0 to advance to the River Ridge District Semifinal game on Wednesday.  The Spartans will take on Blacksburg at 5:30 at Bogle Field, with a spot in the Region Tournament at stake, as well as, a spot in the River Ridge District Championship game on Friday night.
 
Salem scored 5 first half goals in the win over Pulaski and added 3 more in the second half.  Goal scorers were Kim Elmore (2), Brittney Ingvaldsen (2), Claire Sexton, Jade Andrade, Hannah Chauvin, and Katelin Campbell.  Assists were collected by Elmore, Sarah Collie, Megan Kennedy, Meg Beedle, and Kirsten McBride.
 
 
 
 
Salem Beats Pulaski In Last Regular Season Game

 
Salem defeated Pulaski on May 14th, 7-0 at home.  Goal scorers were Kim Elmore (2), Claire Sexton (3), Brittney Ingvaldsen, and Annie Klein.  Assists were collected by Elmore (2), Sexton, Ingvaldsen, Susie Corey, and Laura Buriak.
 
Salem opens up first round of River Ridge District Tournament play on Monday, May 18th, at home against Pulaski.  Game time will be at 6:00 PM!

 

Spartans Top CBurg - SENIOR NIGHT ON THURSDAY!
 
Salem defeated Christiansburg High School 8-1 on Tuesday night.  Claire Sexton had a great game, netting 3 goals and collecting 2 assists.  Kim Elmore added 1 goal and 3 assists, as Meg Beedle collected 2 goals as well.  Other players credited with points on the night were Emily Caldwell (1 goal, 1 assist), Alex Paxton (1 goal, 1 assist), and Sarah Collie (1 assist).
 
Salem is now 11-2-2 overall and 5-2-2 in River Ridge District play.  The Spartans have their last regular season game at home on Thursday night with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 PM.  Thursday night is also Senior Night for the Lady Spartans, as our seven seniors will be recognized.  They include Brittney Ingvaldsen, Megan Kennedy, Molly Satterfield, Taylor Davis, Annie Klein, Kara Kayrouz, and Sarah Chauvin.

 

Salem Loses First Game
 
The Spartans suffered their first loss of the season on Tuesday night.  Salem outshot Blacksburg 11-8, however lost 1-0 after being scored on with 25 minutes remaining.  Bre Kawa made 6 saves in the net for the Spartans.  Salem is now 10-1-2 overall and 4-1-2 in River Ridge District play.  The next game is Friday night at Bogle Field, as Salem will take on Cave Spring with kickoff at 7:00 PM!

Spartans Defeat Titans

Salem took a 1-0 win over Hidden Valley on Friday night. Claire Sexton netted the goal early in the game off an assist from Molly Satterfield to give the Spartans the lead. Bre Kawa collected 6 saves in the net for Salem. Salem is now 10-0-2 overall and 4-0-2 in River Ridge District play.
The Spartans play at home on Tuesday with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 PM!

Spartans Down Cougars
 
Salem defeated Pulaski High School on Tuesday night 11-0.  Goal scorers on the night were Brittney Ingvaldsen (2), Molly Satterfield (2), Harmon Hall (2), Alex Paxton, Kim Elmore, Sarah Collie, Kirsten McBride, and Annie Klein.  Assists were collected by McBride (3), Megan Kennedy (2), Elmore, Collie, Susie Corey, Laura Buriak, and Jade Andrade.
 
Salem plays again on Friday night at Hidden Valley High School.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM!  The Spartans are now 9-0-2 overall and 3-0-2 in River Ridge District play.
 
 
 
Salem Shoots 50 Times
 
The Spartans recorded 50 shots on Friday night as they defeated Christiansburg High School 5-0.  Claire Sexton recorded the first goal of the game 5 minutes in off an assist from Megan Kennedy.  Harmon Hall and Kim Elmore each netted 2 goals on the night to round out the scoring.  Other assists were collected by Sexton, Brittney Ingvaldsen, Hannah Chauvin, and Meghan Dishaw.
 
Salem is now 8-0-2 overall and 2-0-2 in River Ridge District play.  The next game is Tuesday night at Pulaski High School, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 PM!

 

Salem Scores Early In Victory
 
The Spartans scored in the first two minutes and claimed a 3-0 victory over Cave Spring on Tuesday night.  Molly Satterfield assisted Laura Buriak for the first goal and Megan Kennedy assisted Harmon Hall twice in the second half to put the game away.  Kim Elmore, Brittney Ingvaldsen, Taylor Davis, Julia Arthur, and Meghan Dishaw combined for the shutout defensively, as goalkeeper, Bre Kawa made 5 saves on the night.
 
Salem is now 7-0-2 overall and 1-0-2 in River Ridge District play.  The next game is Friday at Spartan Field, with game time at 5:30!

Spartans Struggle Against Blacksburg

Salem played Blacksburg to a 0-0 Tie on Monday night. Bre Kawa made 9 saves in the net to preserve the shutout, however, the Lady Spartans were unable to find the back of the net. Salem is now 6-0-1 on the season and takes on Hidden Valley on Wednesday, April 8, with kickoff at 7PM!

Salem Lets Win Slip Away

On Wednesday night, Salem and Hidden Valley played to a 1-1 tie. The game was scoreless at halftime and Salem struck with 18 minutes remaining in the game to take a 1-0 lead. However, Hidden Valley answered back 3 minutes later to tie the game up. The Spartans goal came off a corner kick by Harmon Hall. Claire Sexton collected the goal off a header. Bre Kawa made 9 saves in the net.

The Spartans now have a week off and will be back in action on Tuesday, April 21st, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 PM! Salem is now 6-0-2 overall and 0-0-2 in River Ridge District play.

 

Spartans Win 8-1!
 
Salem defeated William Byrd High School on Wednesday night 8-1.  Jade Andrade started the scoring 1 minute into the game off an assist from Molly Satterfield.  Brittney Ingvaldsen and Annie Klein added goals in the first half as the Spartans took a 3-0 lead into halftime.  In the second half, Kim Elmore, Kirsten McBride, Alex Paxton (2), and Claire Sexton added goals of their own.  Megan Kennedy led the team in assist, collecting 3 on the night.  Also collecting assist, were Kim Elmore (2), Julia Arthur, and Susie Corey.
 
The Lady Spartans are now 6-0-0 on the season and will play their first River Ridge District game on Monday against Blacksburg High School.  The game will be played at Bill Brown Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 PM!
 
The JV team also won on Wednesday night 3-1.  They currently have a 4-1-1 record on the season and will play at 5:30 on Monday at Bill Brown Stadium.

Spartans Take Tournament

Salem participated in the North/South Soccer Tournament this past weekend at EC Glass High School.  The other teams that took part in the tournament included EC Glass, Osbourn, and North Stafford.
 
Salem defeated Osbourn on Friday night 2-1.  Molly Satterfield started the scoring 6 minutes into the game to give the Spartans the lead off an assist from Claire Sexton.  Osbourn tied the game right before halftime, however Satterfield banged home the game winner 3 minutes into the second half.  Bre Kawa recorded 5 saves in the net for Salem.
 
EC Glass defeated North Stafford 1-0 on Friday night, to setup the Championship game on Saturday between the Hilltoppers and the Spartans.  Glass scored in the first 6 minutes to take the lead, however, Salem answered back with 3 first half goals of their own.  Molly Satterfield netted a ball in the back of the goal off an assist from Claire Sexton to tie the game.  Then Brittney Ingvaldsen scored one minute later to take the lead off an assist from Harmon Hall.  Freshman, Alex Paxton scored the third goal of the half off an assist from Laura Buriak.  The Spartans added two more goals in the second half to take a 5-1 victory.  Goal scorers in the second half were Buriak and Kirsten McBride.  Hall recorded both assists.
 
Also, congratulations to Molly Satterfield, Claire Sexton, and Harmon Hall for making the All-Tournament Team.  Satterfield was also named Tournament MVP.

Your Spartans are now 5-0-0 on the season and will host William Byrd High School on Wednesday night, with kickoff at 7:00 PM!

Salem Picks Up Third Win
 
Salem defeated Northside Wednesday night for the second time in three days.  The Spartans outshot the Vikings 28-0, and won the game 1-0.  Molly Satterfield scored the lone goal off an assist from Laura Buriak.  Bre Kawa and the defense picked up their 3rd shutout of the season.  The JV team picked up another win Wednesday also, defeating Northside 1-0 as well.
 
The Lady Spartans are back in action Friday night in the North/South Soccer Tournament hosted by EC Glass High School.  Salem plays Osbourn High School at 6:00, with EC Glass and North Stafford playing at 8:00.  The losers will play in the consolation game on Saturday at 12:00, with the winners from Friday night playing in the Championship game at 2:00.  Salem is now 3-0-0 on the season and looking forward to the weekend tournment!

Salem Wins On Road Over Vikings
 
The Lady Spartans outshot the Vikings from Northside 28-1, however, was only able to put two of those shots in the goal.  Megan Kennedy struck first in the first half off an assist from Clarie Sexton and Kim Elmore struck in the second half off an assist from Laura Buriak.  The final score was 2-0.
 
The rematch will be tomorrow night as Northside will travel to Salem.  Game time will be at 7:00 PM!  The Spartans are now 2-0-0 overall.  The JV team defeated Northside 3-0 on Monday night and will play Northside again at home at 5:30 tomorrow night.

 

 

 

Salem Collects First Win!

Claire Sexton started the scoring 5 minutes into the game off an assist from Susie Corey. Kim Elmore added another seven minutes later as the Lady Spartans took a 5-0 victory at William Byrd High School on Wednesday night in their 2009 debut. Harmon Hall and Molly Satterfield also netted goals in the first half, as Salem led 4-0 at halftime. Satterfield collected her second goal in the second half. Assists were credited to Sexton, Corey (2), Jade Andrade, and Emily Caldwell.

Salem is now 1-0-0 and will be back in action Friday night at Northside High School with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 PM!

 

 

First Game For Spartans Wednesday

Salem will open up their 2009 campaign on the road Wednesday night at 7:00 PM. The Lady Spartans will travel to William Byrd High School for a non-district contest.

The Spartans completed their scrimmage schedule on Saturday morning by defeating Patrick Henry High School 3-0 at home. Alex Paxton, Harmon Hall, and Hannah Chauvin scored goals in the scrimmage.

 

Spartans Show Well In First Scrimmage

Salem scrimmaged Franklin County at home Thursday night. The scrimmage was successful, as the Spartans defeated Franklin County 7-1. Goals were tallied by Molly Satterfield, Claire Sexton, Alex Paxton, Kim Elmore (2), Emily Caldwell, and Harmon Hall.

Salem has its final tune up this Saturday at 11:30 AM, as they will host Patrick Henry. The Spartans open the 2009 season next Wednesday at William Byrd High School with game time scheduled for 7:00 PM!

SALEM SO CLOSE!
 
The Spartans struck first in the first half, as Megan Kennedy
took a Claire Sexton pass and stuck it in the back of the net! 
The goal gave Salem a 1-0 lead at the half in the State Semifinal game against Courtland. 
Courtland answered with 25 minutes left in the game off a one touch finish
on a ball served over the top of the defense. 
Courtland also scored with 15 minutes left and knocked in a PK with 3 minutes left in the game. 
Salem outshot Courtland 18-9, however was unable to finish them off after
having several opportunities at the end of the first half and beginning of the second half. 
Unfortunately, letting Courtland hang around, cost Salem their season and a shot at the State Title. 
Courtland lost in the final 1-0 to Broad Run the next day.
 

SPARTANS BACK IN STATE SEMIS!
 

Salem advanced in the State Tournament on Wednesday with a win over
Lord Botetourt High School in the State Quarterfinal. 
Salem defeated the Cavaliers 3-0, while holding a 17-1 advantage in shots. 
Molly Satterfield started the scoring 8 minutes into the game as she finished
on a breakaway after Megan Kennedy played a through ball. 
Kim Elmore added another goal before the half off a pass from Claire Sexton. 
Satterfield added her second goal of the game in the second half to seal the deal.
 
Salem is now 18-4-0 overall and will now play Courtland in the State Semifinals
at Radford University on Friday.  Game time is 2:00!


 

SPARTANS ARE REGION IV CHAMPIONS!
 

Salem won the Region IV Championship on Friday evening by defeating Hidden Valley 1-0 at Bogle Field. 
Molly Satterfield scored the goal with 6 minutes left in the first half off an assist from Claire Sexton. 
Sexton lobbed a ball into the 18 and Satterfield volleyed it home for the Spartans. 
The teams recorded an even 12 shots apiece on the night and several defenders contributed to the shutout including:
Kendall Dishaw, Brittney Ingvaldsen, Taylor Davis, Sarah Collie, Meghan Dishaw, Julia Arthur, Annie Klein, and goalkeeper Bre Kawa! 
 
This is Salem's first Region Championship in five years and now they will get to host a State Quarterfinal game on Tuesday at 7:00 PM as
a former District foe - Lord Botetourt - the Region III Runner-ups come to Spartan Field!

Salem Advances To State Tournament and Region Final!

Claire Sexton and Sarah Chauvin scored two first half goals as the Spartans collected a 2-1 win
over Cave Spring High School on Thursday night. 
Both goals were scored by crashing the goal after Molly Satterfield and Kim Elmore took shots that deflected. 
Salem took the 2-0 lead into halftime and made it stand in the second half. 
The Spartans outshot the Knights 25-12, as Spartan goalkeeper, Bre Kawa made 6 stops on the night.
 
With the win, Salem advances to the State Tournament for the first time since 2003
and will play for the Region IV Championship on Friday evening at 5:30 at Bogle Field!
 

Salem Advances In Region IV Tournament!
 
The Spartans traveled to Bluefield, WV on Tuesday to take on Graham High School in the Region IV Quarterfinals. 
Salem won the match 10-0 and advanced to the Region IV Semifinals on Thursday,
where they will play Cave Spring for the fourth time this season for the right to play Hidden Valley in the Regional Championship game.
The game has been moved to Blacksburg Middle School at 7:30.
 
Kim Elmore collected 3 goals in the quarterfinal victory, while Megan Kenndy added 2 goals and 1 assist. 
Other goal scorers included: Molly Satterfield, Kendall Dishaw, Brooke Drew, Susie Corey, and Caroline Byrd.

 

Salem Comes Up Short In Championship Game
 
The Spartans dropped a 3-2 decision to Hidden Valley on Friday night in the River Ridge District Tournament Championship game. 
Elizabeth Arthur scored in the first 25 seconds of the game; however, Hidden Valley answered back 2 minutes later. 
Salem struck again right before the half, as Molly Satterfield finished a ball to give Salem the 2-1 lead heading into halftime. 
In the second half, the Titans tied the score 9 minutes into the half and scored the game winner with less than 2 minutes remaining.
 
The Region Tournament will begin on Monday, May 26.
The Spartans have a first round bye and will be back in action on Tuesday, May 27th 
as they will compete in the Region IV quarterfinal game against Tazewell at East River Soccer Complex in Bluefield.
 

Spartans Play For District Tournament Title For First Time Friday Night!
 
Salem prevailed over Cave Spring on penalty kicks Wednesday night in the River Ridge District Semifinals. 
After regulation and overtime and sudden death overtime, the game remained scoreless. 
Therefore, the contest was decided on penalty kicks. 
Cave Spring shot first and Salem goalkeeper Bre Kawa made a big save to set the tone.  
The first three Spartan players, Megan Kennedy, Kim Elmore, and Kendall Dishaw knocked home their penalty kicks to win the contest, 3-1
and sent Salem to the River Ridge District Championship game on Friday night at 7:30! 
The game will be played at Hidden Valley High School.
 
Salem will have a chance to win their first District Tournament Championship! 
The Spartans have collected 4 District Regular Season, 4 Region, and 1 State Championships,
but never a District Tournament Championship.  They will have their shot Friday night!
 

 

Spartans finish with best regular season record since 03!
 
Salem finished off their regular season by defeating Pulaski High School on Thursday night 10-0. 
Brittney Ingvaldsen started the scoring, as she netted one of her two goals 3 minutes into the game. 
Other goal scorers on the night included; Claire Sexton (2), Hannah Chauvin (2), Molly Satterfield,
Megan Kennedy, Annie Klein, and Jade Andrade. 
Assists were dished out by Kennedy (3), Chauvin (2), Harmon Hall (2), and Elizabeth Arthur.
 
Salem will receive a first round bye in the River Ridge District tournament
and will play in the semifinals on Wednesday at Hidden Valley High School!
 

Salem Takes Second In RRD!
 
Salem claimed second in the River Ridge District regular season with a 8-0 win over Christiansburg on Monday night. 
Kim Elmore led the way with 2 goals.  Other goal scorers were Kendall Dishaw, Harmon Hall,
Claire Sexton, Meg Beedle, Megan Kennedy, and Hannah Chauvin. 
Collecting assists on the night were Hall (2), Kennedy, Elizabeth Arthur, and Brooke Drew. 
Also, goalkeeper Bre Kawa and company picked up their 8th shutout of the season.
 
The Spartans now own a 12-3-0 overall record and 7-2-0 River Ridge District record with one regular season game to go. 
Salem has already established their best district record since 2003 and
look to add another win on Thursday night as they will travel to Pulaski High School with game time at 7:00 PM!
 

Spartans Can Wrap Up Second With One More Win!
 
Salem defeated Cave Spring on Friday night 1-0 to move to 11-3-0 overall
and 6-2-0 in the River Ridge District. 
Molly Satterfield knocked home the game winner with 25 minutes remaining. 
Bre Kawa and her defense played solid to record the shutout.
 
The Spartans are at home on Monday for senior night.  Game time is 7:00 PM!
 

Spartans top Bruins
 
The Salem High School Women's Soccer team defeated Blacksburg on Tuesday night 2-0. 
Molly Satterfield started the scoring off with a first half goal. 
Kim Elmore assisted on the goal. 
Brittney Ingvaldsen added the second goal in the second half off an assist from Megan Kennedy. 
The Spartans out shot the Bruins 20-7 on the night.
 
Salem is now 10-3-0 overall and 5-2-0 in the River Ridge District. 
Salem plays again on Friday night at home against Cave Spring with kickoff at 7:00 PM!


Salem Falls To Hidden Valley
 
Salem had a chance to force a tie for first place in the River Ridge District on Friday night,
as the Spartans came out and scored first off a goal from Brittney Ingvaldsen;
however, it was not enough as Salem fell 3-1 to Hidden Valley. 
The score was 1-1 at halftime, but Hidden Valley scored with 20 minutes left
and added an insurance goal with 3 minutes left to take the victory.
 
Salem is now 9-3-0 overall and 4-2-0 in the River Ridge District with four games to play. 
The Spartans play again on Tuesday at 7:00 in Blacksburg. 
Also, the JV team collected a win Friday night over Hidden Valley, 1-0!
 

Spartans Come Out Strong In Second Half
 
Salem defeated Pulaski High School on Tuesday night 9-0. 
The Spartans started slow with only a 2-0 lead at the half; however,
they decided to come on strong by scoring 7 goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half. 
Goal scorers include; Sarah Chauvin, Claire Sexton (3), Molly Satterfield (2), Kim Elmore (2), and Kendall Dishaw. 
Assists were earned by; Emily Caldwell, Brooke Drew, Elmore, Satterfield (2), Jade Andrade, and Elizabeth Arthur (2).
 
Salem is now 9-2-0 overall and 4-1-0 in the River Ridge District. 
The next game for the Spartans is Friday night at 7:00 PM!

 
Salem Collects Non-District Win!
 

Twelve hours after defeating Christiansburg, Salem traveled to Northside High School
for a non-district makeup game against the Vikings. 
Salem took a 4-0 lead into halftime and never looked back as they defeated the Vikings 7-0.
 
Claire Sexton scored the first goal off an assist from Kim Elmore and
Harmon Hall added 3 goals during the morning game. 
Other scorers were Kendall Dishaw, Annie Klein, and Susie Corey. 
Elmore collected two assists, while Meaghan Dishaw, Molly Satterfield, and Jade Andrade also added assists.
 
The Spartans play again on Tuesday night at 7:00 PM in a River Ridge District game vs. Pulaski County!
 
 
 
Salem 3-1 in District Play!
 
The Spartans traveled to Christiansburg Friday night and picked up a 6-2 win! 
Jade Andrade started the scoring in the first half and Harmon Hall and Molly Satterfield followed suit. 
In the second half; Satterfield, Kim Elmore, and Brooke Drew also tallied goals. 
Recording assists on the night were Satterfield, Andrade, Megan Kennedy, Kendall Dishaw, Hall, and Elmore. 
Salem now moves to 7-2-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the River Ridge District.
 
Also on Friday night, the JV team picked up a 5-1 victory over Christiansburg!
 
 
Salem Plays Well!
 

The Lady Spartans picked up a district road win on Tuesday night by defeating Cave Spring High School 3-0. 
Brittney Ingvaldsen started the scoring 8 minutes into the game by putting home a corner kick. 
Five minutes later Kim Elmore would finish on a breakaway to put Salem up 2-0. 
Emily Caldwell collected the third goal late in the second half off a cross from Molly Satterfield. 
Megan Kennedy, Brooke Drew, and Molly Satterfield earned assists on the night.
 
As the offense did their job, the defense followed suit and collected their second shutout in a row.
Bre Kawa made 6 saves on the night and Kendall Dishaw, Brittney Ingvaldsen,
Taylor Davis, Sarah Collie, and Meg Beedle were credited with the defensive shutout. 
Salem is now 6-2-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the River Ridge District. 

The Spartans play again on Friday night at Christiansburg - game time - 7:00.


 
 
Strong Defensive Effort Paves Way For Salem Victory!
 
Your Spartans defeated Blacksburg High School Thursday night 1-0! 
Molly Satterfield netted home the only goal of the game after collecting a pass from Kim Elmore. 
The match was tied at zero heading into the half; however,
 Salem scored with 19 minutes remaining to defeat the Bruins and collect their first River Ridge District win.
 
Kendall Dishaw, Brittney Ingvaldsen, Taylor Davis, Sarah Collie, and goalkeeper Bre Kawa
performed solid in the back for the shutout. 
This was Salem's first shutout since the first game of the season against William Byrd.
 
Salem plays again on Tuesday at 7:00!
 
 
Salem Fails To Show Up
 

Hidden Valley defeated Salem 4-0 on Tuesday night. 
The Titans opened up a 3-0 halftime lead and the Spartans never responded.
Bre Kawa made 12 saves in the net for Salem.
 
Salem's next game is on Thursday night at 7 PM!
 

Salem Back On Track!
 
The Lady Spartans defeated William Byrd on Wednesday night by a score of 8-1. 
Molly Satterfield started the scoring 1 minute into the game with her first of four goals on the night. 
She struck again 7 minutes later to push the Spartans out to an early lead. 
Satterfield added her third before halftime and Kendall Dishaw and Claire Sexton
also added one before the half to give Salem a 5-0 lead. 
In the second half goals were scored by Satterfield, Sexton, and Hannah Chauvin. 
Dishaw collected 3 assists in the first half, while Elizabeth Arthur had 2 and Annie Klein recorded 1 on the night.
 
Salem now stands at 4-1-0 overall and will be on the road again
Thursday, April 10th, at Northside High School with game time scheduled for 7:00 PM!
 
Also on Wednesday night, our JV team won to stay undefeated at 5-0-0. 
They collected a 4-0 win over the Terriers and will play April 10th at

Salem loses for first time!
 
The Spartans traveled to E.C. Glass High School on Monday night for their fourth game of the season. 
The Hilltoppers defeated Salem 2-1.  E.C. Glass started the scoring 20 minutes into the game,
however, the Spartans tied it up 8 minutes later off a goal from Kendall Dishaw. 
After a 1-1 halftime score, the Hilltoppers broke the tie 20 minutes into the second half for the victory.
 
Salem is back on the road in action on Wednesday against William Byrd High School. 
Game time is scheduled for 7:30!

Salem Wins!
 
The Spartans defeated E.C. Glass High School on Tuesday night 2-1. 
Salem struck first with a goal from Kendall Dishaw off an assist
from Molly Satterfield 10 minutes into the game. 
The Hilltoppers answered back with a goal of their own 10 minutes later
and the game was tied at one a piece going into the half. 
The Spartans finished the job with 6 minutes left in the game as Kim Elmore
netted the game winner after collecting a pass from Megan Kennedy. 
The Spartans held a 15-6 advantage in shots on the night.
 
Salem now has some time to get back to work before going to E.C. Glass
for a rematch on Monday, March 31st, with game time scheduled for 7:00 PM! 
 
 
Spartans Take Down Vikings

 

Salem jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead Friday night and continued to roll
in the second half to an 8-1 victory over visiting Northside High School. 
Goal scorers on the night included Kendall Dishaw (3), Molly Satterfield (2),
Kim Elmore (2), and Megan Kennedy.  Kennedy also added 4 assists in the victory!
 
The Lady Spartans will continue action on Tuesday night as
"AAA" E.C. Glass High School comes to town with game time scheduled for 7:00 PM! 
Tuesday night will also be "Middle School Night" as
the Andrew Lewis Middle Girl's Soccer Team will be in attendance and recognized at halftime of the game.

 
Spartans Off To Great Start!

 
Salem kicked off their season Wednesday night with an 8 - 0 victory over visiting William Byrd. 
The Spartans netted 4 goals in the first 17 minutes to earn their first win of the season. 
Claire Sexton started the scoring off an assist from Kendall Dishaw 6 minutes into the game. 
Kim Elmore, Dishaw, and Brittney Ingvaldsen followed suit with goals shortly after.
 
The Spartans continued to roll in the second half getting goals from Elmore (2), Dishaw, and Hannah Chauvin. 
Players collecting assists on the night include:
Megan Kennedy (2), Elizabeth Arthur (2), Dishaw, and Harmon Hall.
 
Bre Kawa picked up her first shutout of the season, with help from the following defenders:
Brittney Ingvaldsen, Sarah Collie, Annie Klein, Meg Beedle, Taylor Davis, and Julia Arthur.
 
Salem is back in action Friday night,
as they will host Northside High School, with kickoff at 7:00 PM!

 
 
 
Spartans Open Up At Home Wednesday!
 
The Salem High School Women's Soccer Program will play their first game since losing in
the Region Tournament last year on Wednesday night. 
The 2008 Spartans will host William Byrd with JV starting at 5:30 and
the Varsity scheduled for 7:00!
 
Salem had it's final tune up against Franklin County on Saturday. 
The Spartans defeated the Eagles 2-0 in the scrimmage. 
Kendall Dishaw and Clarie Sexton had the goals.


Salem Scrimmages Patrick Henry
 
Salem traveled to Patrick Henry High School on Monday night for an early scrimmage game. 
The scrimmage was hard fought and useful to the Spartans. 
The match ended in a 1-1 tie, as Salem scored 5 minutes into the second half off a goal
from Claire Sexton and PH matched the goal 15 minutes later off a free kick.
 
Salem will have their second scrimmage on Saturday in Franklin County
with game time around 3:00.
