The Educator's Prayer

Today I may have to said to a potential Pasteur
"These constant interruptions I WILL not endure."
Or to a Madame Curie: "You aren't ALWAYS right!"
Or an Abraham Lincoln: "You must NEVER fight!"
Perhaps I asked a budding Salk,
"When everything's quiet, MUST you talk?"
When a young Beethoven hummed under his breath,
My reprimand pronounced a concerto's death.
Or a Sarah Bernhart created a stage
And I had her speak lines from a hackneyed page;
Perhaps a young Joan of Arc fell victim to a rule,
And sacrificed her cause to the confines of a school!
A Michaelangelo may have put his pencil down,
When my impatience was evidenced in a frown.
"Lord, I'm only human, there's error in my ways,
Grant me a vision of the tomorrows in my todays!"
