Home Instruction:

In Virginia, parents must ensure that a child attends school in compiance with the state compulsory attendance law as specified in section 22.1-254 of the Code of Virginia when the child has reached his 5th birthday on or before September 30 of any school year and has not passed his 18th birthday.

Homeless Education:

Student Records:


Salem City Schools adheres to  the Library of Virginia retention schedule for student records. Under the Code of Virginia section 42.1-85, the Library of Virginia (LVA) has the authroity to issue regulations governing the retention and disposition of state and local public records.
