Happy Employee Appreciation Week!

May 8-12, 2017 is Teacher Appreciation Week, an event established by the National Congress of Parent Teacher Associations in 1984.

The School Nutrition Association and other schools in our nation also use the beginning of May recognize the contributions of school nutrition staff during School Nutrition Employee Appreciation Week. Wednesday, May 10 will be School Nurse Appreciation Day, a day set aside as a part of National Nurse Week since 1972.

It takes an impressive number of terrific and highly-specialized people to operate a successful school division, all of whom are deserving of recognition and many of whom serve in capacities with specials days or weeks…here are a few examples: Bus Safety Awareness Week (October); School Board Appreciation (February); School Principal Appreciation Day (March), and Administrative Assistant’s Day (April). There are also days set aside for our librarians, school psychologists, and others who make very important contributions to the students we serve and to one another.

If you serve in an employee group not specifically mentioned here, or in one that celebrated weeks or months ago, please know that we do indeed value you, your contributions, and your expertise. In fact, precisely because every contribution on behalf of children is of great value, the Salem City School Board chooses this week each year to recognize ALL employees.

As is our custom, the School Board is providing a token of the Board’s high regard for its employees that will be made available to you on Tuesday morning. The Board is pleased to have found a modest but practical practical expression that will hopefully be of use to you.

On behalf of the School Board and the approximately 3860 young lives entrusted to our care, I thank you for all you do every day.

Sincerely,

Alan Seibert
